Terms of Use
Effective 19 August 2026. These terms govern your use of the Chess with Friends iOS app (“the app”).
The app
Chess with Friends is a social chess app for people you know. You can play online (including asynchronously), pass-and-play on one device, and nearby over Bluetooth or peer-to-peer Wi‑Fi. There is no chess engine opponent and no public matchmaking with strangers.
Accounts
Some features (online games, friends, records) require an account. You are responsible for the credentials you use to sign in. You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account, as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, including for abuse, harassment, or cheating.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other players (including in display names, handles, or invite messages).
- Cheat or attempt to manipulate game results, clocks, or ratings — including by interfering with the app, the network, or another player’s device.
- Impersonate someone else, or use a handle or name that is intended to mislead.
- Attempt to access another person’s account, or probe, scrape, or disrupt the service.
- Use the app for anything illegal.
You can block another user from the Friends view. Reports of abuse go to support@4liam.app.
Your content
Games, moves, display names, handles, and head-to-head records exist so you and your friends can play and keep score. You grant us the limited permission we need to host and display that content inside the app for that purpose. We do not claim ownership of your name or your games.
No warranty
The app is provided “as is.” We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in every location (nearby play, for example, depends on Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi on the devices involved). To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost games, records, or data, arising from your use of the app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Changes
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.
